Warrant Articles

The Warrant Articles that will be discussed in the May Town Meeting can be found here.

I would not want to represent that I am very knowledgeable on all these warrant articles, but I hope to be by the next Town Meeting at the end of May. Please feel free to reach out to me if there are any specific warrant articles that you would like me to focus on.

Here is an experiment: I put the warrant articles for the May meeting into a large language model and asked it to summarize each one with a couple of sentences. You can see the result, as well as my disclaimer on its use, at this link:
AI Summaries of May 2024 Warrant Articles.

The most controversial warrant article may be Article 19, which is a resolution for Brookline to call for a ceasefire in the Middle East conflict. Voters should know that I would strongly oppose this resolution. This war is horrific, as are all wars, and I hope the violence will end someday soon. However, I do not think Town Meeting should be selectively weighing in on international conflicts. The individuals of Brookline's Town Meeting should follow their conscience and be free to do whatever they think is right in response to this crisis. Brookline's town government should be focused on Brookline's problems and not on international issues it does not have the power to change. My own view of this resolution is that the wording is clearly biased against Israel, as evidenced by the unsubstantiated accusation that Israel is committing war crimes by practicing "collective punishment against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
